What are common challenges with the starter button?

Waiting to start even though you know what to do Feeling stuck before beginning Needing help to get going

What can I try to help with the starter button?

Make the first step absurdly small: not "do homework" but "open the notebook to the right page." Not "tidy your room" but "pick up one thing from the floor." Getting in motion is what matters. Use a countdown launch: say out loud "3, 2, 1, GO" and physically start moving the moment you say GO. The countdown creates a tiny burst of urgency that helps your brain's starter button engage. Try "body doubling" — ask someone to sit near you while you work, even if they are doing something completely different. The presence of another person provides gentle accountability that helps many brains get started. If you cannot start because the whole task feels overwhelming, try "just start badly" — give yourself permission to do a terrible first attempt. A bad start is infinitely better than no start, and you can always improve it later.
