What are common challenges with the pause space?

Acting quickly without thinking Interrupting others Finding it hard to wait

What can I try to help with the pause space?

Practice the "STOP" technique: when you feel an impulse, silently say Stop, Take a breath, Observe what you are feeling, and Proceed with a choice. Practice this during calm moments so it becomes automatic. Before raising your hand in class, press your palms together firmly under the desk for 3 seconds. This tiny physical action creates just enough pause for your brain to check: "Is this the right moment?" In conversations, try placing your hand flat on the table when you want to speak but someone else is talking. This gives you a physical action (pressing down) that replaces the impulse to interrupt, and reminds you to wait. If you often send messages or say things you regret, build a "wait 10 seconds" habit: count slowly to 10 before pressing send or speaking when emotions are high.
