What are common challenges with brains that notice smells?

Feeling overwhelmed by perfumes or cleaning products Losing appetite due to food smells Needing to leave rooms because of smells

What can I try to help with brains that notice smells?

Carry a small container with a scent you find pleasant (a cotton ball with peppermint or lavender oil in a sealed bag). When an environment smells overwhelming, hold it near your nose to override the unpleasant smell. In school or work, ask if the space can be fragrance-free: "Strong scents give me headaches and make it hard to concentrate. Could we use unscented cleaning products in this room?" Sit near a window or door when possible so you have access to fresh air. If you cannot move, try breathing through your mouth temporarily to reduce smell intensity.
