What can I try to help with brains that get stuck?

Ask the people around you (parents, teachers) to give you a 10-minute warning, a 5-minute warning, and a 1-minute warning before you need to stop. Use specific words like: "In 5 minutes, we are leaving for dinner." Create a "save point" habit: before stopping a task, write one sentence about where you are and what to do next. This lets your brain release the task safely because it knows it can pick up exactly where it left off. Build a personal "switch ritual" — the same 3 actions every time you change activities. For example: close the current thing, take 3 deep breaths, then open the next thing. The ritual becomes a signal that tells your brain "it is time to change gears." If a surprise change happens and you feel distressed, say to yourself or someone: "I need 2 minutes to adjust." Give yourself permission to feel frustrated about the change, then ask: "What do I need to know about what is happening next?"
