What can I try to help with your balance sense?

If movement calms you, try 5 minutes of rhythmic swinging or rocking before tasks that require focus. Back-and-forth motion (swinging, rocking chair) activates the calming part of the vestibular system. If you get motion sick, sit in the front of vehicles, look at the horizon, and avoid reading in moving vehicles. Ginger sweets can also help reduce nausea. Experiment with which types of movement help you: some people are calmed by gentle rocking but overwhelmed by spinning. Others need the intense input of spinning to feel regulated. There is no right answer — only YOUR answer. If balance activities feel scary, start very small: stand on one foot for 5 seconds while holding onto something, then gradually increase the challenge at your own pace. Never let someone push you into movement that feels wrong.
